COMBINE EXCURSIONS, RIDING LESSONS AND RIDING INTO THE VALLEYS

Discover the Icelandic horse in Skagafjördur! Here you can combine lessons with experienced instructors, riding in the fantastic nature and historical excursions around Skagafjördur where you can visit exciting places and share stories about the history of the Icelandic horse.

Price includes transfer from Reykjavik (BSI bus station) – Hofsós, accommodation, outings, lessons, riding and dinner in the evenings.

NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS: 10.

Day 1: Bus departs from Reykjavik/BSI bus station at 12.00 noon for transfer to Hofsós. Please make sure you are at BSI in good time. On arrival in Hofsós you are invited to a welcome dinner with the family, and a brief presentation of the week to come.

Day 2: Presentation of the horses on the tour. Trying out horses, and lessons – we are happy to welcome you to our new riding hall! In the afternoon we ride together into the valley. After the horseback riding there is time to go for a swim in the swimming pool in Hofsós, if you like. In the evening we all have dinner together.

Day 3: Today we will make excursions to famous places around Skagafjördur, like the site of the old breeding farm Kolkuós, Varmalaek, Saudarkrokshestar and the old turf farm Glaumbaer. You will hear interesting stories from Skagafjördur about the origin of the Icelandic horse, like the tale of Ragnarsbrunka. We end the day with a swim in the hot spring in Grettislaug, before dinner.

Day 4: In the morning we will have lessons where we take it in turns and work the horses from the ground, and improve our seat and riding skills with the help of an instructor. In the afternoon we ride together into the valley. In the evening we all have dinner together.

Day 5: Today we make a longer riding tour with a herd of free running horses into the valley of Deildardalur. It’s an amazing experience to ride with free running horses, and to explore the stunningly beautiful landscape at the same time.

Day 6: The last riding day we end with a riding tour far into the valley of Unadalur, also known as “The Horse’s Paradise”. In the summer herds of horses graze freely around the valley, and in these magnificent surroundings all of JF Hestar’s horses grow up in freedom to be strong, intelligent and beautiful creatures. People often say this is an experience for life. Farewell dinner in the evening.

Day 7: Bus departs from Hofsós at 08:00 am and return to Reykjavik (BSI) around 13.00 pm. The bus journey will take approx 5 hours + check in at the Airport so book a flight with departure after 4.30 pm if you want to leave on the same day.
