5 DAYS RIDE IN THE MOUNTAINS

Transfer Reykjavik (BSI bus station) – Hofsós is included, as well as accommodation and dinner every night. 5 riding days. Please note that for this tour you need to be in good phsyical shape and be prepared to walk along with your horse for a brief part over the mountain, if necessary.

Day 1: Pick up from BSI Coach Station in Reykjavik at 12.00 noon for transfer to Hofsós. Make sure your flight arrives in the morning and allow at least 1 hour transfer from the airport – or arrive a day early and spend a day in
Reykjavik. On arrival in Hofsós you are invited to a welcoming dinner at Jóhann and Elsa’s home,  with a brief presentation of the week.

Day 2: We leave Hofsós on horseback around 10:00, and head for Kolbeinsdalur, 30 km. After a days good riding in a beautiful landscape we leave our horses at Fjall, and are taken back to Hofsós by bus for dinner and maybe a swim in the excellent swimmingpool.

Day 3: Today we start around 9:00 am and go further into Kolbeinsdalur. We continue into Heljardalur, where we climb Heljardalsheidi up to 840 m above sealevel. From there we go on into Svarfadardalur, which is where Jóhann grew up. We leave the free running horses at the farm Kot, and continue with our riding horses to the farm Skeid, where we will have dinner and stay for the night. 

Day 4: Today we will be riding around in beautiful Svarfadardalur, where Jóhann started his life on horseback, and founded his love for and knowledge about the horse. After a beautiful day in the valley we go back to Skeid.

Day 5:  Now we will be returning to Kot to collect the free running horses and then we go back through Svarfadardalur, through Heljardalur and Kolbeinsdalur, 30 km. We leave the horses at Fjall, and are taken back to Hofsós by bus for dinner.

Day 6: The bus will take us to Fjall at 9:30. Today is our final riding day, going through the magic valley back to Hofsós, 30 km. In the evening we have a nice farewell dinner, sum up the week and have a last chance to ask Jóhann about his long life with the horses of Iceland.

Day 7: We leave Hofsós 8:00 am for Reykjavik, and will arrive at BSI around 13.00 pm. If you want to leave on the same day, book flights departing after 16:30 pm.
